Spider Control Summit — When to Call a Professional
Most spiders in Summit homes cause no harm and need no intervention. The exceptions — Black Widow and Brown Recluse — are present across much of the US and deliver bites that require prompt medical treatment. Beyond the venom risk, a high spider count in any property is a reliable indicator that an insect population is supporting them.
In Summit, the highest spider activity consistently occurs in areas with low disturbance and available prey: garages, basements, crawlspaces, seldom-accessed storage, and exterior foundation zones with leaf litter or dense vegetation.
Black Widow & Brown Recluse Identification
Black Widow identification: shiny black body, round abdomen, red hourglass marking visible on the underside. Typically found in low, dark, sheltered locations. Brown Recluse identification: uniformly light brown with a dark violin shape on the cephalothorax, and six eyes arranged in pairs rather than the standard eight. Found in undisturbed storage areas, between folded clothing, and inside boxes. Neither species should be approached without protective equipment.
